Away We Go: Finding love on London’s Millenium Bridge

love on millenium bridge

London’s Millenium Bridge is a pedestrian bridge spanning the Thames River, with the Tate Modern on the south bank and St. Paul’s Cathedral on the north bank.  Albert’s office is pretty close to it, so after work sometimes we’d walk across it and enjoy the unusually mild weather.

One day while crossing it, I saw this lock with a heart drawn on it and I thought it was cute.  Apparently it’s a thing to leave locks on the railings, because the next time I crossed the bridge there were tons more that I hadn’t noticed before, but this one in particular was gone.

I’m back!

I got back to Hawaii on Tuesday (which felt like the longest day ever because I was traveling back in time zones).  I’m glad to be home, but it really sucks that Albert and I are once again 7000+ miles away from each other.  This time, we won’t be able to be together until October.  Boo. :(

It’s going to take me awhile to get back into the swing of things.  When I left, my desk was a huge disaster, and it’s only gotten a little better since then.

I’ll start posting again soon.  How have you guys been?

On holiday in sunny (no, really) London

I did that thing again where I let love and impulsivity win over prudence and good sense. I extended my trip, this time by another week. I won’t be back in the States until April 30th.

Albert’s family will be here at the end of the week, and he managed to a get a few days off from work while they’re here. Yay, more Albert!

I probably won’t post much until I get home. I’m amazed that I still have readers and followers when I update so infrequently and go on hiatus like, all the time. Thanks for that, it really means a lot. :)

Stila is on Hautelook again!

Just got this email from Hautelook and Stila’s on sale until Wednesday, 8AM Pacific time!

As always, I’m sorely tempted, this time by the Long Wear Liquid Lip Color in Fiery, which I mentioned before that I’ve wanted for awhile.  It’s only $8!  Damn you, Hautelook!

Also, Hautelook is offering free shipping on orders over $100 from now until May 8th.  International orders and all items over 5 lbs. are excluded.  I wonder if Hawaii is included in the free shipping…?

My personal invite link here.  (If you join and purchase, I get a $10 credit.  However, you can sign up through Facebook or your email too.)

Lastly, I’ve come down with a tiny cold. :( Yesterday was tricky.  It was nice and sunny, so I went out without my coat, but then it got cloudy and cold-ish again.  I stayed in all day today, in hopes that some rest is all I need to feel better, and I can go out and do things for the rest of the time I’m here.  Albert’s coming home soon, and we’re making soup for dinner.  He’s feeling a bit under the weather as well.  Sniffle sniffle.

Out of the office!

Hello all!

I arrived in London late Tuesday night.  I’ll be in the UK until the 24th. :)

On Wednesday, I attended an Open Day for Production Design at the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield.  It’s a really comprehensive program with cool facilities, and it would be a dream come true to go there for my Master’s!  However, as I’m neither a UK nor an EU student, the cost of tuition and fees alone is along the lines of £41,000.  As in $80,000 USD.  That’s not even including living expenses.  Ouch.  Sigh.

Also in Beaconsfield, I came across a cool store called Temptation Gifts.  They carry a really cute line called Gorjuss, and I almost bought a compact mirror, but I didn’t!  Now I’m on a hunt to find that design again.  There’s a pop-up store in Harrod’s for Gorjuss, so I want to find it there before I leave.

Lastly, Albert and I are leaving for Oxford tonight!  Excitement!  We’ll stay overnight and return to London on Saturday night. :)

P.S. I’ve reached 100 followers on WordPress!  Very cool!  Thanks for reading, everyone!

Away We Go: Signs about dog poop

So, while walking around in Sant Lluís in Menorca, Spain, I saw this sign and I cracked up laughing:

dog poop sign sant lluis menorcaYes, I sometimes have the maturity level of a 3 year old.  I mean, come on!  Isn’t it hilarious?  He’s squatting and everything!

After spotting that, I made it a point to take pictures of other “Clean up after your dog” signs.  From a graphic design point of view, it’s really interesting how different shapes and lines can convey the same meaning.

From a completely immature point of view, it’s just funny as hell.

dog poop sign ciutadella menorcaThis one was in Ciutadella, the other “big” city in Menorca.  He’s pooping out little dog bones!  Hahahaha!

dog poop sign mao menorcaI think this one was in Maó, Menorca’s capital.  This guy has a little pooper scooper.

This was in Barcelona.  I used Albert’s iPhone for this picture because I didn’t have my camera with me.  Or maybe it died.

Hahahahahahahahahaha!!

Away We Go: Chicago’s Cloud Gate

chicago cloud gate

AKA: The Bean!

This was by far my favorite public art piece in Chicago.  It’s so cool!  As you can see, the surface is extremely reflective, making it a popular tourist attraction for amazing photos of Chicago’s skyline.

I’m no photography pro, but even I could manage some pretty sweet shots.

Read more about the Cloud Gate on Wikipedia, and check out even more beautiful pictures of it on Google Image Search.

Have you ever been to Chicago?  What do you think of The Bean?

Away We Go: Life’s a Beach

lanikai

I was going to post a few more pictures of Chicago, but it’s getting late and I’m sleepy (I only just started using the Schedule function that WordPress has.  It’s a game changer).  I already had this one in my “To edit” folder.  Also, I really miss Albert tonight.

So, this picture is from last September, when he was here last.  This is Lanikai beach.  We went there to watch the sunset (even though it’s on the east side, so we didn’t see much).

Lanikai is one of my favorite beaches on the island.  It’s beautiful, the surf is gentle, and the sand is soft.

This is what my personal heaven looks like.  Perfect weather, picturesque beach, and the love of my life lounging in the sand beside me.

50 Shades of WTF

I’ve been distracted yet again by another awesome blog.  This time, it’s a brilliant, scathing, chapter-by-chapter commentary/analysis on the piece of crap that is 50 Shades of Grey.

I read through the first book via her recaps, and they are literally LOL hilarious.  She slogs through the awful writing and disturbing themes so we don’t have to!  I feel like she deserves a medal.

Check them out here: Jen Reads 50 Shades of Grey.

Just a note: I have absolutely nothing against the BDSM lifestyle, as long as it’s done safely between consenting adults.  The behavior described in these books, however, is straight up ABUSE.  I want to punch both Christian Grey in the face for being an insufferable asshole, and Miss Anastasia Steele for being a huge fucking idiot.

Also, if I’ve insulted you in any way because you happen to be a fan of these books… Well, then we clearly don’t have that in common.

Away We Go: Hello, lover

I’m going to start a new series called Away We Go.  Basically, I’ll be posting my travel pictures bit by bit.  I tried posting a bunch all at once and that didn’t really work because 1) I was too lazy to edit and upload so many files all at once so it took really long to finally get them up after my trip and 2) I was too lazy after my first trip to NYC/London/Scotland that I didn’t post anymore.  I know this is primarily a beauty blog, but I do have a category for travel, so I might as well flesh that out.

I’ve decided to post on Wednesdays.  Because it’s Hump Day, and I think we could all use a little daydream vacation to help us get through the rest of the week, amirite?

First up: Weekend trip to Washington, D.C.!  Albert and I visited my friend Kenina and her husband Michael during my second weekend of my Chicago trip.

hello lover

This was taken on the Georgetown campus.  I spotted a random heart confetti on the ground, and I asked Albert to stand facing me so I could take a picture of our boots.  Kenina kept teasing us that our boots were matching, and that she thought it was cute.  Let’s all stop for a moment and either a) say “d’awww” or b) puke because I’m being sappy.

P.S. My boots are by Steve Madden, if anyone wants to know.  No idea what Albert’s boots are, though.
